Florida Rapper Julio Foolio Fatally Shot in Tampa Hotel Parking LotTAMPA, Fla. — Florida rapper Julio Foolio was shot and killed in a Tampa hotel parking lot early Sunday morning. His lawyer, Lewis Fusco, confirmed his death to CBS News affiliate WTSP-TV.
Around 4:40 a.m., Tampa police responded to a shooting at the Holiday Inn Tampa North. According to Tampa Police spokesperson Jonee Lewis, two cars were fired upon, and four people were hit by gunfire. One of the victims is believed to be 26-year-old Charles Jones, Foolio's legal name, though police are awaiting confirmation from the medical examiner.
Three other individuals were injured in the incident.
Fusco told WTSP that Foolio had been in Tampa to celebrate his birthday at an Airbnb but was asked to leave due to overcrowding. He then went to the Holiday Inn, where he was reportedly ambushed.
Foolio, who has over 1 million Instagram followers, had shared and promoted his birthday celebrations in Tampa on his page.
While hotel guests were not evacuated, police remained on the scene to assist as needed. Authorities are urging anyone with videos or information to contact the Tampa Police Department at (813) 231-6130 to aid in the investigation.
“If you saw something or heard something, any little detail can help us figure out what happened this morning,” Lewis said.
