T20 World Cup 2024: India vs Canada Match Abandoned Due to Wet Outfield
In disappointing news for cricket enthusiasts, the highly anticipated T20 World Cup clash between India and Canada was called off without a single ball being bowled. The decision came as a result of persistently poor wet outfield conditions at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida.
Despite efforts with two inspections, umpires Richard Kettleborough and Sharfuddoula determined that the playing conditions were unsuitable for a match to commence, including even the toss.
India, led by captain Rohit Sharma, concludes the group stage unbeaten and advances to the Super 8 phase as one of the tournament favorites. They topped Group A with three wins and this abandoned match, accumulating seven points and a net run rate of +1.137. Meanwhile, Canada currently occupies the third spot in the group standings with three points and a net run rate of -0.493.
India's next fixture is scheduled for June 20 against Afghanistan in their first Super 8 encounter at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, starting at 8:00 PM IST. Following that, they will confront Australia, who defeated them in a heartbreaking final in the ODI World Cup last year.
