Search Underway for Missing 19-Year-Old British Man in Tenerife
Mountain rescue teams and search dogs have been enlisted in the effort to locate Jay Slater, a 19-year-old British man who has gone missing in Tenerife, as confirmed by his mother.
Jay Slater, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was last in contact around 08:00 BST on Monday. According to his friend Lucy, who accompanied him to the island for a music festival, Jay called her indicating he was lost, in need of water, and had only 1% battery left on his phone. Shortly after, his phone went offline, with his last known location pinpointed in the mountainous Rural de Teno national park in Tenerife's northwest.
Debbie Duncan, Jay's mother, expressed deep concern and shared that Spanish authorities have mobilized mountain rescue teams and canine units to aid in the search. She described the situation as distressing, noting the lack of communication since his last call.
Lucy recounted that Jay had gone to stay with acquaintances he met during the holiday but seemed unaware of the distance from his lodging when he decided to walk back on Monday morning. She has been actively searching for him since then, emphasizing the vastness of the area.
A spokesperson from the Foreign Office informed the BBC that they are assisting Jay Slater's family and maintaining contact with local authorities in Spain regarding the ongoing search efforts.
