The Magic of Scottie Scheffler

Toward the end of the PGA Championship, a curious discussion emerged about Scottie Scheffler. It wasn't about his arrest, and it likely went unnoticed by many. Some commentators questioned why Scheffler hadn't won any PGA Tour events after April, despite his dominant performances since winter 2022. This critique overlooked his consistent excellence in various summer events, Ryder Cups, and on different courses. However, this narrative has been put to rest with Scheffler's recent victory at the Memorial. He secured a one-shot win over Collin Morikawa at the challenging Muirfield Village in June, marking his 11th PGA Tour win since February 2022. His victories include two Masters, two Players, and four elevated events.

noted, Scheffler's achievements in the last three months alone could merit Hall of Fame consideration. Whether in February, April, or June, Scheffler's success at the Memorial was driven by his superior approach game, statistically outshining his peers. Despite not putting exceptionally well, his solid start and the course's tough setup allowed him to win with a Sunday 74. This win seemed significant to Scheffler, evident in his emphatic reaction to sinking the final putt.

Scheffler's consistency and excellence have placed him among the best since Tiger Woods' prime. Golf, being a solitary sport, often sees players focusing on their own game, but Scheffler's current form has made him a looming figure in the minds of his competitors. Runner-up Morikawa praised Scheffler's steadiness and precision, likening his consistency to Tiger-like mastery.

Scheffler's peers recognize his superiority, and this acknowledgment can influence their performance. As they try to keep up, they understand the challenge of matching Scheffler's level, especially when they aren't at their best. With a strong track record in major championships, including T-7, T-2, and 3rd in the last three years, Scheffler now heads to the U.S. Open with confidence, having proven he can win in June. This U.S. Open feels like Scheffler's to lose.
