Chad McQueen, 'Karate Kid' Star, Dies at 63

Chad McQueen, son of legendary actor Steve McQueen and best known for his role as Dutch in the iconic 1984 film The Karate Kid has passed away at the age of 63.

McQueen's death was confirmed by his attorney, Arthur H. Barens, who announced that the actor died on Wednesday.

Chad McQueen rose to fame with his performance in The Karate Kid where he portrayed one of the rival students in the Cobra Kai dojo, cementing his place in pop culture. However, McQueen eventually stepped back from acting to pursue a career that was closer to his heart, following in his father’s footsteps by turning to auto racing.

In a 2005 interview, McQueen explained his shift away from Hollywood, stating,I didn’t find acting fun anymore, so I decided to give racing a total commitment. This passion for motor racing led him to build a successful career as a driver and racing enthusiast.

His wife, Jeanie Galbraith, alongside their children, Chase and Madison, shared an emotional tribute to McQueen on Instagram. McQueen’s son, Chase, wrote,Knowing you’re now reunited with your Dad and Sister brings me some comfort. Until we ride again, I love you.

Jon Hurwitz, co-creator of the Karate Kid revival series Cobra Kai also shared his condolences. He revealed that they had been in talks with McQueen about reprising his role in the series. Hurwitz wrote on X (formerly Twitter),Chad was unable to join us when it came time to shoot, but Dutch will always be remembered as a badass’ badass in the Miyagiverse. He kicked ass.

Hurwitz added,The fandom mourns a Karate Kid legend today. I’m grateful for the time I spent with him. Sending love and strength to his family. May Chad rest in peace.

McQueen’s legacy as both an actor and a racer reflects his multifaceted talents and his deep connection to the legacy left behind by his father, Steve McQueen.
