"Messi Scores Hat Trick as Argentina Dominates Bolivia"

Lionel Messi delivered a stellar performance, scoring a hat trick and assisting in two additional goals, as Argentina dominated Bolivia 6-0 in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday. The match, played at a packed Monumental de Nuñez Stadium, saw fans erupt in celebration as Messi led his team to an emphatic victory.

This marked the first time in Messi’s international career that he recorded multiple goals and assists in the same match. It was also his 10th hat trick for Argentina, equaling Cristiano Ronaldo's record for Portugal.

Making only his second international appearance since recovering from an injury sustained during the Copa América in July, Messi took advantage of a defensive error by Marcelo Suarez to open the scoring in the 19th minute.

"We enjoyed this, and we’re happy to be playing in Argentina," Messi said, though he remained non-committal about participating in the 2026 World Cup. "This could be one of the last [matches in front of the Argentinian crowd]."

Bolivian goalkeeper Guillermo Viscarra made several impressive saves to keep the hosts at bay, but Lautaro Martínez doubled Argentina's lead in the 43rd minute, converting a quick cross from Messi. Just before halftime, Messi set up Julián Álvarez for a third goal.

Argentina dominated the second half, with substitute Thiago Almada adding a fourth from Nahuel Molina's pass in the 70th minute. Messi then capped off the night with two more goals late in the game, completing a brilliant display.

With this win, Argentina sits atop the standings with 22 points, three ahead of Colombia, who defeated Chile earlier in the day. Bolivia, still chasing their first World Cup qualification in 30 years, remains in the hunt with 12 points.

The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
