"Paul Di’Anno, Original Iron Maiden Frontman, Dies at 66"

Paul Di’Anno, the heavy metal vocalist best known for fronting Iron Maiden during their formative years, has passed away at the age of 66.

His record label, Conquest Music, confirmed his death at his home in Salisbury, stating: “Despite struggling with severe health issues in recent years that confined him to a wheelchair, Paul continued to perform for fans globally, playing over 100 shows since 2023.”

Born Paul Andrews in Chingford, east London, to a Brazilian father and British mother, Di’Anno joined Iron Maiden in November 1978 after an audition. The band, led by bassist Steve Harris, had already gone through two singers before finding their match in Di’Anno. Initially skeptical of the band’s theatrics, Di’Anno later admitted, “When we started playing together, it just seemed to gel.”

Reflecting on his impact, Di’Anno once said: “The Maiden boys were lovely, the kind you could introduce to your nan. But if she’d met me, she’d have died of a heart attack within a minute … I brought them madness and an over-the-top aspect.”
