Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Trump sparred on Friday over Trump’s recent inflammatory comments about Liz Cheney, one of his most vocal Republican critics. Trump suggested Cheney should be placed "with nine barrels shooting at her," a statement that sparked bipartisan criticism.
In response, Harris argued that such language should disqualify Trump from holding the nation’s highest office, while Trump attempted to reframe his remarks with slightly milder wording. He also criticized Harris for her support of Cheney during campaign events.
Trump’s initial statement, made during a Thursday night interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, fueled ongoing tensions with the Cheney family—one of the country’s most influential political dynasties. The exchange cast a shadow over campaign events on Friday as Harris and Trump each held rallies in the Upper Midwest, concluding with separate events in Milwaukee.
Harris, addressing reporters after landing in Madison, Wisconsin, condemned Trump’s rhetoric, calling it a sign of unfitness for the presidency. "This kind of violent rhetoric must be disqualifying," she said. "Anyone who aspires to lead this country should not engage in such behavior."
The incident marked another escalation in Trump’s aggressive stance against Cheney, a former Wyoming congresswoman and daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
