Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse against his estranged wife, Gillian, admitting to repeated abusive behavior over a five-year period.
Appearing at Selkirk Sheriff Court, Hogg acknowledged acting in a verbally aggressive manner toward his wife, including shouting, swearing, and sending alarming messages. The court was told that, on one occasion, the former Hawick and Glasgow Warriors player, capped 100 times for Scotland, sent over 200 messages within a few hours.
The 32-year-old, currently playing for Montpellier in France, engaged in conduct causing fear or alarm to his wife while they lived together in Hawick and Exeter, where he played for Exeter Chiefs. This behavior reportedly led her to seek support from domestic abuse services after experiencing a panic attack.
Following their separation in 2023, Hogg continued to monitor her movements through the Find My Phone app and sent repeated messages, contributing to the abuse charge. Sentencing has been deferred until 5 December, pending background reports and further mitigation from Hogg's legal team.
