Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk Responds to Positive Drug Test with Shock and Denial
Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has expressed disbelief after being informed by the Football Association (FA) of a positive drug test result.
Reports from Ukraine indicate that an "A" sample provided by Mudryk at the end of October tested positive for a prohibited substance. The "B" sample has yet to be analyzed, with testing expected to take place in the coming days.
Addressing the situation on Instagram, Mudryk stated:
“I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance.
“This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.
“I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can.”
Chelsea confirmed the FA had contacted the club regarding Mudryk’s “adverse finding in a routine urine test.”
In an official statement, Chelsea said:
“Mykhailo has confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances, and the club will work with the relevant authorities to establish what has caused the adverse finding.”
FA regulations allow for players to be provisionally suspended following a positive drug test. However, the FA declined to confirm whether Mudryk, 23, had been suspended or when the "B" sample testing would take place.
According to FIFA rules, players found guilty of intentionally using banned substances can face suspensions of up to four years.
The investigation continues as Chelsea and Mudryk await further developments.
