"Former AFL Star Sam Fisher Weeps as He's Sentenced for Drug Trafficking"

Former St Kilda football star Sam Fisher, aged 41, tearfully bid farewell to his loved ones as he received a sentence of over five years in prison. Fisher's descent into drug addiction culminated in his involvement in an interstate trafficking operation.

The verdict was delivered at the County Court in Melbourne on Thursday, following Fisher's admission of guilt to six drug-related charges. Among these charges were trafficking a commercial quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, and 1,4-Butanediol, as well as three counts of drug possession.

Fisher's troubles began when he was apprehended by police in May 2022 for his role in trafficking 996 grams of methamphetamine and 82 grams of cocaine from Melbourne to Western Australia. The former AFL player's involvement included transporting a rangehood, acquired from Harvey Norman in Moorabbin, and delivering it to a Melbourne patisserie owned by his co-accused, Julien Morvan's father. Unbeknownst to Fisher, the rangehood concealed the illicit drugs.

Authorities intercepted the package on April 20, discovering two parcels hidden inside the rangehood containing the illegal substances.
