### Historic Comeback: Bochum Stays in Bundesliga, Stöger Shines
VfL Bochum displayed immense resilience and secured their place in the German Bundesliga through a historic comeback. Trailing 0-3 from the first leg against Fortuna Düsseldorf, Bochum managed to win the return leg on penalties, with Kevin Stöger playing a pivotal role by assisting two goals and scoring twice.
Bochum's extraordinary performance saw them overturn a seemingly insurmountable deficit from the first leg played last Thursday. The team, led by coach Heiko Butscher, triumphed 6-5 in the penalty shootout after drawing level 3-0 (3-0, 1-0) in 120 minutes. Stöger set up the first two goals, scored the third from the penalty spot, and also netted in the shootout.
Until Monday evening, no team in the history of Bundesliga relegation playoffs had ever overcome a 0-3 first-leg deficit. However, Philipp Hofmann (18', 66') and former Düsseldorf player Stöger (70', hand penalty) pushed Bochum into extra time. In the penalty shootout, Düsseldorf's nerves faltered, culminating in Takashi Uchino's miss, which sealed their fate.
For Düsseldorf, who had Marlon Mustapha on the bench, the nerves appeared to have been their undoing following the clear first-leg result. They will now have to make another attempt to return to the top tier of German football, having last played in the Bundesliga in the 2019/20 season.
Bochum quickly took control of the match, while the hosts relied on counter-attacks through their first-leg hero, Christos Tzolis. Initially, Bochum's only threat came from a half-hearted shot by Stöger (7'), but their first significant opportunity was converted when Stöger found Hofmann's head with a free kick.
It was evident that Düsseldorf, after their commanding first-leg performance, suddenly had something to lose. Daniel Thioune's side frequently made passing errors near their penalty area. Bochum grew increasingly confident and posed a constant threat, especially from set pieces.
