Politicians React with Outrage to Airport Blockade

"Politicians Demand Action After Airport Blockade"

Despite their initial intention not to engage in further demonstrations, climate activists from the "Last Generation" group made an exception for airports. As the holiday season commenced, they blocked Munich Airport, prompting calls for consequences from politicians.

Politicians from various parties have responded with harsh criticism to the blockade of Munich Airport by climate activists. Six supporters of the "Last Generation" group managed to breach the airport's perimeter fence and attached themselves to access roads near the runways. The airport was temporarily shut down as a result. Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser (SPD), urged on the X platform: "The perpetrators must be pursued rigorously, and security measures at the airport must be reviewed." Faeser believes that such actions undermine climate protection efforts, "as they only provoke misunderstanding and anger." Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) also criticized the action, stating, "If air traffic does not proceed safely, it endangers people's lives, with significant consequences."
