Rosario Central Salvages a Last-Minute Draw Against Tigre in Professional League

Rosario Central and Tigre drew 1-1 at the Gigante de Arroyito stadium in the context of the second round of the 2024 Professional League. Gonzalo Maroni opened the scoring, and in the final moments, Facundo Mallo secured the definitive equalizer.

Rosario Central salvaged a dramatic 1-1 draw against Tigre at the Gigante de Arroyito Stadium for the second round of the 2024 Professional League. Tigre started off strong with a stunning goal from Gonzalo Maroni, but in the last minute, Facundo Mallo emerged to prevent Central's defeat.

Just when it seemed Tigre was breaking their streak and finally returning to the path of victory, their hopes were dashed by a last-minute header that eased the tense atmosphere along the banks of the Paraná River. The story couldn't have started better for Sebastián Domínguez's team, who took the lead thanks to a tremendous long-range shot from Maroni that was impossible for Broun to stop, sparking jubilation on the visitors' bench to celebrate the former Boca and San Lorenzo player's first goal for the Victoria team.

Tigre ended the first half closer to their second goal than Central was to equalizing, but that changed radically in the second half, specifically in the last fifteen minutes when desperation grew and the crowd lost patience, to the point that Jaminton Campaz left the field amid boos.

Central sought the aerial route, and the choice paid off at just the right moment. In the fourth minute of the five added by Andrés Merlos, Mallo managed to beat his markers to score the dramatic 1-1, a result that, given the circumstances, leaves a bitter taste for both teams. For Central, it represents a missed opportunity to extend their good form from the Copa Libertadores to the domestic league, and for Tigre, it prolongs their winless streak since March 1st, although they did earn their first point under Domínguez's leadership tonight (having lost all previous matches).

With this result, Rosario Central and Tigre conclude the second round with only one point each, with Central in sixteenth place and Tigre in twentieth. As for the Annual Table, the Rosario team occupies twenty-first place with 16 points, while the Victoria team only has six points, placing them in the last position and relegation zone. In the next round, Central will visit Deportivo Riestra at the Guillermo Laza stadium, while Tigre will seek to break their bad streak when they host Racing at the José Dellagiovanna stadium.
