US actor Johnny Wactor, known for his role in the series "General Hospital," was killed by suspected thieves. The 37-year-old approached three men who were tampering with his car in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday, his mother Scarlett told KABC-TV. One of the men suddenly shot her son, who later died at a hospital. Wactor initially thought his car was being towed, his mother added. The three men fled, with the shooter wearing a mask. The police confirmed the incident on Sunday, according to media reports, but did not disclose the actor's name.
The thieves were attempting to steal the car's catalytic converter, which contains valuable metals like platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Catalytic converter thefts have surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, as reported by the "Los Angeles Times." Wactor played the role of Brando Corbin in approximately 200 episodes of the long-running soap opera from 2020 to 2022, which first aired on ABC in 1963. "He was truly one of a kind," stated the "General Hospital" X (formerly Twitter) page. Originally from Charleston, California, Wactor also appeared in other series such as "Westworld," "Criminal Minds," and "Station 19."
Currently, he was exploring a career as a screenwriter and working as a bartender, his younger brother Grant told the "Los Angeles Times." The incident occurred as he was escorting a colleague to her car after their shift: "He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
