Xbox Games Showcase Unveils 'Call of Duty: Black Ops 6' Release Date and More
The excitement kicked off on Sunday with the Xbox Games Showcase, where it was announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will hit the shelves on October 25th and will be accessible on Day 1 through the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
At the event held in Los Angeles' David Geffen Theater, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed the first gameplay footage of the highly anticipated "Call of Duty" installment.
Among other notable announcements during the presentation were Gears of War: E-Day, the prequel to Doom titled "Doom: The Dark Ages," and a revival of the beloved "Fable" series, all set to debut in 2025.
Riding on the coattails of the successful "Fallout" TV series on Amazon Prime Video, Xbox also disclosed a new expansion update for Bethesda Studios' "Fallout 76" titled "Skyline Valley," scheduled for release on June 12th. In this update, "Fallout" enthusiasts can finally take on the role of a ghoul character.
Furthermore, updates on several other highly anticipated titles were shared during the event, including Avowed,State of Decay 3," EA and Bioware's Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, Starfield: Shattered Space,South of Midnight,Atomfall,World of Warcraft: The War Within, Konami's Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater" remake, "Winter Burrow and "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024along with their respective release targets.
A key emphasis during the Showcase was the commitment to make these new titles available on Game Pass on the same day as their official release. This move underscores Microsoft Gaming's dedication to providing optimal service to its subscription-based clientele, eliminating the need for them to wait for new games to be added to the paid offering.
Moreover, during the two-hour showcase, Xbox President Sarah Bond unveiled plans for digital-only versions of the Xbox Series X and S, slated for release during the holiday season. Additionally, the company disclosed that work is underway on its "next generation" of consoles. Xbox's Series systems originally hit the market in November 2020, coinciding with the launch of Sony's PlayStation 5 console.
The Xbox Games Showcase occurred on Sunday during the Summer Game Fest, just two days following the festival's presentation at the YouTube Theater at SoFi Stadium. During this event, attendees were treated to sneak peeks of Warner Bros. Games' Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, PlayStation's Lego Horizon Adventures and other exciting titles.
