Frank Fritz, the beloved co-star of *American Pickers*, known for his dark beard, warm smile, and deep love for vintage motorcycles, passed away on Monday night at the age of 60.
Fritz had been struggling with health issues following a stroke over two years ago, which exacerbated his already severe Crohn’s disease, according to close friends. His death was confirmed by his long-time friend and co-star, Mike Wolfe, who shared on Instagram that he was by Fritz’s side “when he took one last journey home.”
“I’ve known Frank for more than half my life, and what you saw on TV was the same as what I experienced off-camera— a dreamer who was just as sensitive as he was funny,” Wolfe wrote. “Frank had a way of touching people's hearts by simply being himself.”
Fritz, who owned *Frank Fritz Finds*, an antique shop in Savanna, Illinois, was found unresponsive at his home in Davenport on July 14, 2022, after a motorcycle accident involving a deer, according to a personal friend who shared updates in a private Facebook group.
Following his stroke, court documents show that Fritz was placed under temporary guardianship due to his diminished decision-making abilities. The petition for guardianship stated that his condition left him unable to care for his own safety or manage necessities like food, shelter, and medical care. A local bank took charge of his finances, and a close friend was appointed as his guardian.
Fritz and Wolfe, childhood friends, rose to fame as the stars of *American Pickers*, a show that began airing in 2010. The series followed the pair as they traveled across the U.S. searching for antiques, using their streetwise knowledge and sharp instincts. Their dynamic chemistry and love for "picking" created a hit show that resonated with audiences and made the two close-knit collectors household names.
Though Fritz left *American Pickers* in 2020, creating some tension between him and Wolfe, he remained a fan favorite. His recovery after the stroke was difficult, marked by hospitalizations for seizures and other health complications. However, by the end of 2023, Fritz’s health had improved enough for him to reunite with Wolfe after three years and enjoy a night out with friends.
During that reunion, the pair reminisced about their early days, including their nervousness before appearing on *The Late Show with David Letterman*. Wolfe expressed deep gratitude for Fritz, saying, “Nobody can replace you, Frank,” according to a friend who shared details of their emotional reunion.
Just over a year later, Wolfe rushed from his Nashville home to be by Fritz’s side during his final moments.
Reflecting on their adventures, Wolfe shared in his tribute post: “Before the show, we would set off with no destination, driven by our passion to discover something interesting and historic. Who could have imagined we’d one day share our travels with millions of people?”
Frank Fritz will be remembered for his unique personality, his passion for antiques, and the genuine connection he shared with so many through his time on *American Pickers*.
